He lived a life of constant instability because of his parents’ drug addictions.

Like many boys raised in similar circumstances, he spent his early years begging on the streets and shuffling between shelters, never knowing the security of a permanent home.

He was eventually picked up by people looking to help, but his greatest fear was being moved to yet another facility. He’d never been raised with real safety or stability.

Until now. The night 8-year-old Alex arrived at our safe house in Mexico City; it all changed for him.

On his first night there, our team awoke to a noise. They found him in the living room, playing with toy cars. For the first time in his life, Alex was free to play and simply be a kid.

This is what it’s all about: children being able to be children, play safely, and be raised with hope and freedom to dream.
